nourishing mothers with herbs
(and just a few)
supplements...
Thursday, August 4th
from 6:30-9:00pm
The first thing we should think about
to support pregnancy is nutrition. While prenatal
vitamins can be helpful, its not uncommon for them to
not adequately cover all the nutritional bases... just
because there's magnesium in it certainly doesn't mean
there's enough magnesium. We'll discuss the basic
actions and principles that underlie the holistic use of
plants and focus on using herbs as nutritive support.
Which herbs are nutritive? How are they best prepared
and taken? When are plant preparations superior to
supplements, and when are supplements more appropriate?

a mother's
medicines...
Thursday, August 11th
from 6:30-9:00pm
Sometimes during pregnancy we need more than just
nutrition... Morning sickness, sciatica and even
the common cold make us consider the use of medicines,
but which are safe, at what doses and for how long?
We'll consider the use of herbs to address common
issues related to pregnancy, with special emphasis on
how to understand the different ways herbs can work in a
given problem (for example, does an herb stop bleeding
because it contains Vitamin K, because it's astringent,
because it's oxytocic, or because it clots the blood?),
and ways you can choose the best herbs for the person
you're working with, and not just the problem they're
trying to address.
